In Term 3 4B participated in the process of creating Slowmations (Slow Animations). Students created their Slowmation during Reading Groups, independently with a partner. There was minimal teacher facilitation to allow students to explore and experiment with the process on their own. In Term 4 4B will be viewing each group's Slowmation and providing feedback to assist them for their next Slowmation creations.
The Slowmation process was as follows:
1. Pick a topic and decide on a story or concept to inform the audience.
2. Draft the Slowmation with pictures and audio on a storyboard worksheet.
3. Create or gather materials needed for the Slowmation (e.g. Cut-out pictures of characters, lego-people, words, etc.)
4. Take individual photos of each scene for the Slowmation using iPads. For instance, if students wanted a character to walk, they had to take a photo of the person, move them slightly and take another photo. The camera must stay in the same position the whole time. They then continue this process until they have each photo that shows the character walking.
5. The photos were uploaded to iMovie. Students then added their audio to the Slowmation to provide information and explanation on their topic.
We hope you enjoy our very first Slowmations!
